A deadhead is when a bus that is moved from one location to another with no passengers (empty bus). There are several reasons for deadheads.
- Capacity (shortage of buses).
- Maintenance (bus can safely be moved but conditions prevent the carrying of passengers. No heat or A/C, passenger door will not stay shut, bus keeps shutting down, bus is overdue for required maintenance etc).
