Open Run

An open run is a first section "Regular Run." The run has come open because the Regular Driver has booked off (called in sick, took a personal day off, is in training etc).

An open run that belongs to your home board usually includes the return portion of the run (example, tonight I have been called in to take an open run to Abilene Texas from Dallas Texas, I am automatically attached to the return portion of the run from Abilene Texas to Dallas Texas).

If you are on a "foreign board" (a board that is not your home domicile) you could end up with a "One Way Open Run." The return portion is SUPPOSED to be open to the board the run terminates in.

Additional one way open runs are Markups. A Markup is never assigned to a regular driver. A Markup has no return run. See the term Markup for more information.
